From The Principal
At the end of last week the “Indian Feast” took place in our Hall. This event usually coincides with the learning experiences of the Class 5 Main Lesson. Whilst this year the event was delayed and separate from the timing of the curriculum, it was seen as a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and immerse into the culture, spirit and foods of India. Our Class 6 children missed this event altogether in 2020 due to Covid-19 so the invitation was extended to them as well. It was a fantastic night and credit must go to the families of Class 5 who really took this event on with gusto. The transformation of our Hall for this beautiful experience was truly amazing. A big thank you has to go to Mark Baxter who really drove the event. A special moment for me was watching one of the dads dancing with his daughter. I think they will both cherish that moment for years to come!
For those of you who closely follow what is happening in NSW education, and what is required by NESA, I thought I’d share some pleasing news. There has been considerable concern looming about the implications for Steiner Schools of imminent changes in education for Kindergarten, Class 1 and Class 2 due to the NESA on K-2 Syllabus reforms. Steiner Education Australia (SEA) has been lobbying on behalf of Steiner Schools, putting forward strong arguments about our approach, and this is being heard! At the end of last week SEA provided us with an excellent summary of their recent meetings with NESA and the Association of Independent Schools, and it is affirming to know that we will still be able to approach NESA learning outcomes based on the Steiner approach. The Steiner philosophy and way we deliver curriculum at Kamaroi is what defines our school, so it is really important that this is not compromised. Thankfully, it should not be. I certainly appreciate the efforts and advocacy by SEA and especially by their CEO, Virginia Moller, who is one of Kamaroi’s former Principals.
This week the Firesticks, Labyrinth and Spiral Walk marked the blessing of winter, the mid-point of the year, and a time for quiet reflection. These events are planned by our staff with a great deal of thought and preparation. Parents too have played a big part in marking this time of the year and your support is appreciated. Many of you assisted in the preparation and set-ups for the events which lightens the work load of our teachers. It was a very disappointing set-back that you could not join your children from Kindergarten to Class 4 for the Mid-Winter Spiral. You can be immensely proud of your children who demonstrated such reverence for the occasion.
We give thanks for the blessing of winter to replenish strength. I hope all families have special time together to rest in the term break.
Warm wishes,
Barbara Maxfield

Class 1 rainy days
Lunchtime is for utilising the recent wet weather and using the glorious Kamaroi mud to make a Bliss Ball. The other children were searching intensely for crystals to purchase the ball…. 5 sparkling crystals would secure this prized possession.
